UK Mission to the United Nations - New York

The UK is committed to the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

At the 2000 Millennium Summit, Member States of the United Nations established global development targets to be achieved by the year 2015, termed the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).  Recognising the lack of progress made in achieving these goals, in July 2007 Prime Minister Gordon Brown declared a "development emergency" and, with the support of the UN Secretary-General, issued the MDG Call to Action.  The Call to Action aims to galvanise Member States and global civil society to build a common vision of what needs to be done to get the MDGs "back on track".

Now, halfway to 2015, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for a "year of action on the MDGs" and is hosting a high-level event on the MDGs on 25 September 2008.

Follow our links to find out more about the Millennium Development Goals and the Call to Action and the latest developments on the 25 September High-Level event.
